Quarterback and Receiver Tips
Throwing The Fade Route
Throwing the Fade
When teaching your receivers to run fades for the QB, teach them to work hard at getting their hips beyond a defender and staying as vertical as possible on their route, letting the ball fade them to the sideline as it arrives.
Sideline Cushion
This position will allow for a maximum delivery area for the QB to throw the ball, and a great area for the receiver to separate from the DB as the ball arrives over his outside shoulder. The sideline is not our friend, and any routes run too closely to the sideline give the decisive advantage to the defensive back.
Get Vertical
Work hard to get vertical by attacking the inside shoulder of the DB, “knock off” the outside shoulder as you go by, get back on vertical line giving room to sideline, and then fade to the ball. The belief that the defender will have a play if we aren’t close to the sideline, depends on the receiver running a great vertical route. The receiver can create space for himself to the outside by staying on the vertical line until the ball is delivered
